Using Microsoft SMTP Service and CDONTS with MailSite
Document #:10007
Applies To:
Synopsis: MailSite and the Microsoft SMTP Service can be run on the same system by setting each to a different inbound port.
More Information: Microsoft SMTP Service can be run on the same system as MailSite. However, you must configure Microsoft SMTP Service to use an alternative inbound port to prevent conflicts with MailSite. By default, both servers use port 25 for incoming and outgoing SMTP connections. You can use Microsoft SMTP Service as a proxy to MailSite by setting the local machine as the Smart host and setting the outgoing connection for Microsoft SMTP Service to 25 (the default).
To set these connection options in Windows 2000, open the Internet Services Manager and display the properties for the Default SMTP Virtual Server. Click the 'Advanced' button to display IP address options, and replace the port 25 with an alternate port (for example, 26) in each entry. Click the 'Connection' button in the Properties window and set the 'TCP port' field to 25. Finally, go to the Delivery tab of the Properties window and click 'Advanced'; in the 'Smart host' field, enter the name of the local system.
In Windows NT, open the Management Console and display the Properties for the Default SMTP Site. In the Incoming Connections box of the SMTP Site tab, set an alternate value for 'TCP port' (for example, 26). In the Outgoing Connections box, set 'TCP port' to 25. Finally, on the Delivery tab enter the local machine name in the 'Smart host' field.
