Access denied error in MailSite Express
Document #:10082
Applies To:
Synopsis: MailSite Express displays access denied error after login, or in various pages of express.
More Information:
The access denied error can be caused by re-installing MailSite, and using a new instance of the MailSite-user account created by version 5 installer. MailSite 6 and laters uses an account called "MSIISUSER" for setting up Express and the permissions.
This problem is caused when the old MailSite-user account is removed by the installer. When the installer subsequently recreates the MailSite-user account, the file permissions, and ownership of the BOX directory, along with the included files, may not get reassigned to the new MailSite-user account. Instead, the permissions are cross-assigned to the old account, which now is a ghost account, and will appear as a long string of characters in the security settings for the folders and files that were assigned to it.
To correct this problem, you may have to:
- Take ownership of the files in the mailsite BOX directory.
- Reset the permissions on the BOX directory.
- Assign the MailSite-user account to the parent directory and inherit the permissions to the child directories.
NOTE:
Using the MailSite-user or MSIISUSER account ensures that all the proper permissions are assigned for MailSite to operate effectively.
