Minimum Password Length
Document #:10502
Applies To:
- MailSite
9.2.x
- Express
9.2.x
- ExpressPro
9.2.x
Synopsis: Within version 9.2 and later it is now possible to specify a minimum password length for mailboxes.
More Information: Setup
To set the minimum password length you can use a command called msbox.exe. Currently there is no way to set this through the MailSite Console.
By running this command on the MailboxTemplate account the password policy will then automatically be added to all other mailboxes within that domain.
Webmail Messages
With the new policy in place if a user tries to set a password within ExpressPro that is shorter than this length the following popup message will be displayed.
New password is too short. The password must have at least X characters.
Where x is the minimum length of characters
Within Express the error will look like this:
MailSite.Server.5 error '80004005'
Unable to update the password. The value provided for the new password does not meet the length, complexity, or history requirement of the domain. (0x52D)
?, line 0
The users should attempt to create a longer password in order to meet this new policy.
MailSite Console Messages
If you try to set a password directly within the MailSite Console and it does not meet the minimum password length, you will see the following error message:
Cannot set mailbox password
Error: 1325
Unable to update the password. The value provided for the new password does not meet the length, complexity, or history requirements of the domain.
