Spam Engine Thresholds

Synopsis:
In MailSite 9.4 the Anti Spam thresholds have changed. The Anti Spam engine in MailSite marks messages between 1 and 10. 0 is reserved to indicate the message was not scanned by the spam engine. The Sieve Filters in MailSite are used to decide how to handle these messages.

MailSite 9.4 implements version 6 of the MailShell Anti Spam engine.
Prior versions of MailSite implemented Version 5.

Spam Threshold Values

Previously the thresholds were:

  • 1-6 Not Spam
  • 7-8 File to Junk Mail
  • 9-10 Spam
The default sieve filter rules were:
  • Server Receive Script set to Reject 9+
  • Mailbox Delivery Script set to file 7+ Quarantine the message in the auto purged "Junk Mail" folder

In MailSite 9.4 and later the default threshold are:

  • 1-8 Not Spam
  • 9 File to Junk Mail
  • 10 Spam
The default sieve filters in 9.4 and later are:
  • Server Receive Script set to Reject 10
  • Mailbox Delivery Script set to file 9+ Quarantine the message in the auto purged "Junk Mail" folder

Upgrading customers

Customers upgrading from 9.3 and below to 9.4+ are advised to manually update their sieve filter thresholds if they experience high levels of false negative/positive spam messages. The upgrade process will NOT update existing rules to the new defaults.
